7 Smoothies to detox and cleanse your body

I am a huge fan of smoothies and I love how I can throw in all sorts of fruits and veggies into the blender turning them into delicious, healthy and nutritious drinks.

I think the beginning of the year is a great start for a little detox especially after all that eating and drinking over the holiday season. And well, to just simply boost your immune system!

Smoothies are one of the best drinks you can add to your daily routine, and would make a great start to the day giving you that energy boost you need. So scrap that coffee and grab a smoothie instead!

To detox the body you need to feed it food that will help it cleanse, and provide it with the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals it needs to function at its best to detoxify, purify, rejuvenate, and strengthen the body.

So here, I have rounded up are 7 yummy smoothie recipes that you can try for a whole week:

Monday: Berry Breakfast Smoothie

Banish the Monday blues with this baby! Berries are full of antioxidants and fibre making them great for detoxing. It is what your body needs to replenish itself. These berries mixed with ginger helps stimulate digestion and flush out the bad toxins.

Serves 2

Ingredients
1 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
3/4 cup chilled unsweetened almond or rice milk
1/4 cup frozen pitted unsweetened cherries or raspberries
1 1/2 tbsp honey
2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1-2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Directions:
• Combine all ingredients in blender, adding lemon juice to taste
• Puree until smooth and serve

Tuesday: Cucumber, Honeydew, and Mint Smoothie

This delicious green smoothie is excellent for cleansing and also weight loss. It is packed with nutrients to boost your energy for the day.

Serves 2

Ingredients
1/2 English cucumber, peeled and chopped
1/2 honeydew melon, peeled and chopped (2 cups)
1 cup pear juice
2 tbsp fresh lime juice
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

Directions:
• Combine all ingredients in blender
• Puree until smooth and serve

Wednesday: Strawberry, Banana and Flax Smoothie

Strawberries and bananas pair well with each other and are often seen combined together in smoothies. The classic combination with the added goodness of flaxseeds creates a slightly nutty flavour to the drink, and not to mention increases the health benefits and is high in fibre.

Serves 1

Ingredients
1/2 medium banana
1/2 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
1 1/2 cups skim milk or light soy milk
2 tbsp ground flaxseed

Directions
• Combine all ingredients in blender
• Puree until smooth and serve

Thursday: Carrot, Mango, and Herb Smoothie

2 cups frozen mango chunks
1 cup fresh carrot juice
1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/4 cup fresh herbs, such as mint, tarragon, or basil

Friday: Super Energy Smoothie

Finish the end of the work week and  start your weekend with a big boost of energy! This smoothie is packed with healthy fruits and veggies, combined with the coconut water make it an excellent hydrator. Note, this recipe yields a big batch.

Ingredients
2 pints pineapple
2 pints watermelon
2 quarts coconut water
spinach
blueberries
2 green apples

Directions
• Combine all ingredients in blender
• Puree until smooth and serve

Saturday: Anti-aging Green Monster Smoothie

Green smoothie

This green monster smoothie is loaded with protective phytonutrients to help boost your body’s defenses against cancer and chronic degenerative diseases. It can also help correct diet deficiencies.

Ingredients
1 cup apple juice
1/4 cup carrot juice
1/4 cup cucumber juice
3/4 cup kale juice
1/4 cup organic plain yogurt
1 tsp olivello juice (optional)
1 cup ice

Directions
• Combine all ingredients in blender

Sunday: Watermelon Agua Fresca Smoothie

Ingredients
3 cups diced seeded watermelon , chilled
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Pinch of sea salt
Agave nectar (optional)

Directions
• Combine all ingredients in blender
• Puree until smooth and serve
